Ministry of Industry: Pandemic Forces Global Restarting Economic Activities

The Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Policy Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Doddy Rahadi said the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world in the last two years forced the entire global community to restart and reboot economic activity.


"So far, in the restarting and rebooting period that has taken place, the national industry has shown competitive results," said Doddy when giving an online speech at the Customer Gathering of the Ministry of Industry's Center for Crafts and Batik (BBKB) in Yogyakarta, Tuesday (7/07). 6/2022). The achievement of the national industry which remains competitive, according to him, is shown by data on the national economic growth in 2021 of 3.69 percent on an annual basis (yoy). "With this growth rate, Indonesia's GDP (gross domestic product) per capita also increased to Rp 62 ,2 million or equivalent to US$3,349, higher than the GDP per capita before the Covid-19 pandemic in 2019 which was Rp. 59.3 million," he said.

In addition, he said, the value of the export and import balance which was in a surplus during the Covid-19 pandemic with the contribution of the non-oil and gas industry sector in total exports during the first quarter was 95.01 percent. Therefore, he said, this is the right momentum to reorganize the competitive position of Indonesia's industry in the global value chain.


It was recorded that the utilization of the national industrial sector reached 70.30 percent. "Restarting and rebooting states experienced by all countries in the world must be put to good use through increasing industrial productivity and value added, import substitution commitments, spending on domestic products, and strengthening the competitiveness of domestic industries," he said.


Doddy also explained that the export achievement of batik products in 2020 reached 532.7 million US dollars and in the first quarter of 2021 it reached 157.8 million US dollars. As for the handicraft industry, the export value in 2020 will reach 694.8 million US dollars, in the first quarter of 2021 it will reach 190.1 million US dollars.

"With the main markets for exporting handicrafts, among others, to the United States, Malaysia, Japan," he said.
